Drawn, Worn and Reborn
1978 Black and White
The Black, White and Greys, 1978
Cotton twill with cotton appliqué
Designed by Noel Crombie

A monochromatic set of costumes in which Crombie began to experiment with the effect of appliqué. The Black, White and Greys were the forerunner of several sets of costumes using this technique. On stage the abstract shapes became three dimensional and appeared to float in space.

With the introduction of tailored suits, the band became even more unified. This period saw the deliberate toning down of makeup and the modification of hair styles. Band members had begun to lament that they found it increasingly difficult to perform some songs dressed like elaborate clowns.
