THE
AUNTY JACK SHOW… AND TELL
HAMER HALL | 12 April 7pm
| $57 - $69
The Aunty Jack Show burst onto Australian television
screens in 1971. Grahame Bond's outrageous character,
the bikie and self proclaimed 'Queen of Wollongong',
was the antithesis of television presenters-a
moustached hostess who threatened to jump out
of viewer's television sets and 'Rip their bloody
arms off.'
Now The Aunty Jack Show is back with a live
stage show and the answers to those nagging
questions. Grahame and Rory are going to tell
it all, the naked truth, with their clothes
on.

It's an age-old story - a deal with the devil,
aka Nick Shadow, who finds country boy Tom Rakewell
in a moment of aimlessness and offers him more
excitement than he can imagine. There's a price,
of course. After a year of filthy lucre and seamy
delights Nick Shadow is back to claim his dues
and all rests on the turn of a card.
Will Tom's gamble pay off? Will he find Anne Trulove
again? Or will it all go horribly wrong? Find
out as director John Cox and conductor Richard
Hickox bring Glyndebourne Festival Opera's world
famous production to the Australian stage for

MARCONI OPERA TALKS: 26, 29 April & 13 May,
45 mins. prior to performance
If you feel like you're falling in love the moment
the curtain goes up on this magnificent opera,
you're not alone. Everyone is intoxicated by the
beguiling Violetta, and it's not just the champagne.
The glitter of gay Paris, the opulent costumes
and above all, Verdi's gorgeous music will take
your heart and probably break it too. This is
one of the most accessible of all operas, set
in 19th century Paris, with powerfully drawn characters
and unforgettable music. The sumptuous setting
and elegant costumes set the atmosphere for the
worldly life of the fallen woman living in luxury
yet empty within. |

prior to performance
Cultures collide, generations are at war and lovers
fall irresistibly, helplessly and hopelessly in
love. Feel the heady love and crushing despair
in this passionate opera and relish some of opera's
greatest show-stoppers including Lakmé's
transcendent 'Bell Song' and the heart-warming
'Flower Duet'.
You can almost smell the jasmine in this lush
vision of Southern India, peopled by mystical
princesses, peasants and Brahmins, well-meaning
officers of the British Army and even a few gods.
Drawing on diverse stylistic influences including
classical Indian religious calendar art, photographs
and paintings from the British Raj and even Bollywood,
this new production is a riot of colour and exotic
seduction. |

work's unfinished state has not prevented it becoming
one of the great spiritual odysseys in the world
of orchestral music.
In serene contrast, pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk
appears as soloist in one of Mozart's most beloved
concertos. Eckehard Stier, an outstanding figure
in the newest generation of young conductors, makes

ST. KILDA ROAD FOYER | Until 2 April | Open daily

Breath is a collection of photographic portraits
by Lisa Tomasetti of dancers from The Australian
Ballet. They include intimate black and white studio
portraits of the dancers in repose, as well as informal
behind the scenes shots taken during The Australian
Ballet's 'Swan Lake' tour of the United Kingdom
in 2005. The inspiration behind Breath was to represent
the dancers in a way not normally seen by the public;
to show the strength and beauty in their stillness,
and also the playfulness of posing them with London's
famous landmarks. |
