For promising newcomers Short + Sweet provides an opportunity to work at a higher level of technical expertise, hone skills with experienced theatre professionals and showcase their work in a professional venue - the Arts Centre, Fairfax Theatre.

For those selected for the competition there is also the chance to win a share of $20,000 in cash prizes including Best Overall Production, People's Choice, and Best Director.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Following the interviews in September the short-listed directors will be given a selection of scripts to choose from and will be invited to attend the Short + Sweet auditions in late September/ early October to cast their play.

From there, directors organise rehearsals and start rehearsing their plays for the competition which will be held at the Arts Centre, Fairfax Studio from 3 - 20 December 2008.
